The workshop

The home of our business, where all pieces of furniture, kitchens and wardrobes are made. The workshop based in Cheshire is where the ideas come to life, why not come and visit and get an idea for yourself?

The home of Sutherland's Cabinets.

The location where the journey starts to bring your idea to life.

The cab room

The main cab room is a place of warm, where the detail of the first markings are set, the tried and tested methods of handmade cabinetry beginings here from techniques used over centuries. This is where you will find mortise and tenons to dovetail joints beaming into life. The discreate smell of timber may hit you on entering the cab shop to see your kitchen doors being made or your dining room table, the room is always open to visit to get a sense of true craftmanship at the heart of Cheshire.

The shop floor

A busy environment where you will find plenty of modern but also classic machinery to help in the process of creating bespoke cabinetry and furniture. From the initial cutting down of the timber to plane and edging to reach a point where the wood is flat and smooth. Which then is ready to enter the cab room to begin the next step of the journey.

You will also find other machinery such as the groove machine, panel saw which has a range of blades to cut to down large pieces of timber or to precisely cut down sizes of boards into smaller shapes ready to be added to the interior of the framed cabinetry.

Within the main section of the workshop you will of course find benches where frames are put together or plans are revisited.

The wood store

The drying room where our wood is carefully stored to dry to the right temperature before entering your home. Sometimes this would can be stored for months before hand to gain the right moisture levels before being touched. By this way it helps the timber get to a level of around 8-10% moisture content which is in and around the perfect percentage to begin crafting to be fitted in your home. Because don't forgot timber is still a a living and breathing life form and always moving and taking in and out moisture which is why we find it such a beautiful element to work with to create something so unique for your home which should be taken with care.

The spray shop

A key cog in our craftsmanship the final touches to a piece of furniture or the finish to your kitchen cabinets. The place where colour comes to life, a place of detail, patience and time.
